The operating system developed for Apple devices does not allow data exchange in any way “direct” with our PC: in this guide, we will focus on how to transfer photos from iPhone to PC (and vice versa) in various methods. In fact, with other operating systems such as Android or Windows Phone the exchange is done simply by connecting the smartphone to the PC – as if it were a USB stick – but the methods for transferring images (and files in general) exist and are equally valid for your iPhone.
How to transfer pictures from iphone to computer
We listed 4 method to transfer pictures from iPhone to computer.

- Via the Photo app
- Transfer photos from PC to iPhone
Transfer photos from iPhone to PC
There are three methods by which you can transfer photos from iPhone to PC, and also depends on the latter’s operating system. If you have a Mac PC, then you can follow the procedure by choosing whether to use the iCloud Photo Library, iTunes or the preinstalled Photos app.
If you are following the procedure from a Windows PC, then you will have to make sure that the latter recognizes your iPhone and then you will have to install iTunes or iCloud and connect it to your iCloud account. Let’s begin!
ICloud photo library
Through the Apple cloud service – iCloud precisely – all the photos and videos you have made with your iPhone (but also iPad, iPod touch, Mac, Apple TV) are automatically saved and will be accessible from a PC.
I recommend, before starting the procedure, make sure that your device has an active iCloud library. Also if you have a Windows PC, you will first need to download iCloud and configure it with your Apple ID (the same you have on the iPhone).
Once you have downloaded and opened iCloud follow these steps (on Windows):
- Click on Options next to “Photos” in iCloud;
- Select iCloud Photo Library ;
- Click Finish, and then click Apply.
By doing this, you will have activated and configured the iCloud photo library on your smartphone and your computer. In this way, a copy of all photos and videos will be uploaded to the cloud. All that remains is to remove them from the iPhone and move them to the PC!
To do this, open iTunes on your PC (read the next paragraph if you are from a Windows PC ) and synchronize the photos. At this point, you will see a message telling you that “Videos and photos synced from iTunes will be removed.”
In practice, the photos and videos that you have synchronized from your computer will be stored on your computer but will be removed from the iPhone. But there are still other ways to transfer photos from iPhone to PC: let’s see how to do it from iTunes!
Recover deleted iPhone videos Through iTunes
If you have a Windows PC in front of you, as mentioned, the first thing to do is download iTunes (click on this in red to do it), install it and log in with the same iCloud account that you have set on your iPhone.
Now to transfer photos from iPhone to PC, follow these steps after connecting it to it using the supplied cable:
- Go to Windows Explorer and then to this PC (or My Computer on PCs with versions before Windows 10)
- Right click on the iPhone icon and select Import images and videos
- From the new window select Rived, organize and group the items to be imported and confirmed.
- Select the groups of images to import and where to do it, and confirm with Import
- If you prefer to import all photos without selecting them first choose Import all new items now and confirm with Import
If you have a Mac instead, then you will not have to do sync your photos and videos of your iPhone with iTunes, connecting to the PC via the cable and then clicking on ” Photos ” where you will find the ” sync ” button.
Finally, activate the iCloud library on both PC and iPhone and, as explained in the previous paragraph, you will receive a message with which you will be notified that the photos and videos uploaded to iCloud will be deleted from your iPhone (and will be accessible from iTunes where you have just synchronized).
Via the Photo app (Windows)
Finally, follow this guide if you have a Windows 10 PC with which you can take advantage of the Photos App pre-installed to transfer photos from iPhone to PC (but also video) in a simple way!
Simply connect your iPhone to the PC with the supplied cable, open the Windows Photo app and click on ” Import ” and then choose ” USB device ” on the top right as shown:
At this point, you can choose which photos/videos to import! Simple, no? But if there are any problems, however, consider downloading iTunes on your PC and configuring it so that your iPhone can be recognized on your PC.
If instead the procedure to do is the opposite one, that is from computer to iPhone, as the first thing you must always install iTunes on your PC and perform these steps:
- Connect iPhone to PC and start iTunes
- At the top left, select the iPhone and move to Photos from the sidebar.
- Leave the checkbox on Sync photos, select Choose folder, then Copy photos from and go to select the folder with the photos to be imported on iPhone.
Also, in this case, you can use iCloud for this purpose, once you have installed it on your PC and activated on your iPhone (same procedure described above) here’s what you have to do:
- Go to PC on Images then iCloud Photos and finally on Uploads
Here paste the photos you want to load on your iPhone and wait for the procedure to end (there are to consider the normal upload times). A further alternative method for transferring photos from PC to iPhone without using cables is the use of AirDrop on Mac OS X (found in the Finder ).
